This piece is part of the Chinese Zodiac series in my Floral Paintings. Every Year I will endeavor to create a Floral Painting of the Chinese Zodiac - with the cycle completed after 12 long years. Let’s see where this technique takes me!
Peonies, 2013. All Rights Reserved.
The Peony is truly a beautiful flower, and since I did not manage to include it in my Exploded Flowers series, I have waited for an appropriate time for it to come into season and celebrate it as part of my Floral Painting series.
It’s January, and the Chinese New Year, or Spring festival (春节）is coming soon. The Peony is a symbol of Spring, honour and wealth.
I hope this piece brings a breath of Spring to you!
Gloriosa, Aster, Hydrangea, Cotton, Chrysanthemum, 2012, All Rights Reserved.
The next Chinese Lunar calendar year is that of the Dragon, and the changeover will be either on 23rd Jan or 4th Feb this year, depending on who you ask. This is all because of a discrepancy in dates for 初一 (the first day of the year for the lunar calendar) and for 立春 (the beginning of Spring). Some people say that the changeover for the chinese zodiac falls on the former and others say the latter.
For this particular print, I will be allowing purchases via fotomoto as well - it is the Dragon Year after all! Numbered signed prints by me are also available here.
Rose, Eustoma, Peruvian Lily, Hydrangea All Rights Reserved
To celebrate the new year, I hope that this piece- showing flowers bursting into butterflies, celebrating life -brings you joy!
